Author's Notes: Written for shellies's Two Lines challenge. This is my first attempt at Firefly fic, so it might be wildy OOC,and I know I probably really mangled the Chinese. But I can only get better, right? Set pre-Firefly.

so let's get to the point
let's roll another joint
-tom petty, you don't know how it feels

Kaylee wasn’t sure where Jayne got the herb, but she knows better then to ask. Kaylee learned a long time ago not to ask too many questions when it came to Jayne. But, never the less, she accepts the pipe when it passes her by again. Its good herb, makes her feel heavy and like she’s flying at the same time. She smiles up at the night sky and laughs.

They had landed here, on the outskirts of this small town, earlier in the evening. A small, yet vital part of the engine malfunctioned, and it was impossible for them to stay in the sky any longer. She made the repairs rather quickly, jerry-rigging a solution that would work well enough until she could get the part she needed. But it would be another 12 hours or so before Serenity was able to take off, the epoxy needing time to dry. Kaylee only hoped it would hold when they took off.

So while Kaylee made the needed repairs, Zoë and Wash went into town, replenished their supplies. The Capitan went off looking for possible clients and he hadn’t returned yet. And Jayne went off and did what ever it was that Jayne did. But when he came back, it was with a shit eating grin and a bag of herb. They were all better off not knowing how he had came by it.

And now there they sat, the four of them, in the mild darkening evening. They had built a fire, and now sat around it in a comfortable silence. The pipe kept making its way between them. Mal would not be too impressed with his crew getting high, but Mal was nowhere to be seen at the moment and they were making the best of it.

“It never ends, does it?” Kaylee asked no one in particular. Her eyes took in the night sky above her; the stars coming out by the thousands, making her feel tiny in the greater scheme of things.

“What never ends?” Zoë’s voice was full of humour.

“Space, the black. It just goes on forever, don’t it?” She had turned to face Zoë and Wash. She smiled brightly at them and they smiled back.

“It certainly does seem so,” Wash replied, “I remember when I was a kid, seeing this old old map, of what people once thought was the known universe, and all around the edges was written ‘here be dragons’. I wonder if we would ever see a dragon?”

“I’ve seen lots that I never thought I would, it wouldn’t surprise me one gorram bit.” Jayne’s voice was rough and slow. Kaylee laughed again, sounding slightly more hysterical then amused.

“I think our young mechanic has had enough herb for one night.” Zoë said, taking the pipe from Kaylee.

“No, I’m fine. Shiny even” And to prove her point, Kaylee stood up. But as soon as she was up, she was immediately dizzy and started to fall.

Jayne was there before she hit the ground, his arms wrapping around her. She gave him a look of surprise and laughed again.

“Hiya Jayne. What are you doing here?”

“Stopping you from falling arse over tea kettle. Come on girl, time you went to bed.” He helped her to stand and steered her towards Serenity.

“Alone at last bao bei.” Kaylee heard Wash say. She didn’t have to turn around to know that they were kissing. She laughed again and Jayne just gave her a look.

She had little problem getting to the ship, but she leaned heavily on Jayne anyways. He felt good, firm and solid against her. And though she had never noticed it before, he smelt really good. The last realisation made her giggle again. Jayne looked at her like she had clearly lost her mind.

“Herb always make you feel like this?”

“Feel like what?”

“Happy, giggling all the time.”

“I’m happy all the time Jayne, didn’t you know that? That’s what everyone says, Kaylee, she’s the happy one.”

Jayne just snorted. He had managed to get her to her bunk, but he eyed the ladder suspiciously.

‘Think you can manage it on your own?” Kaylee leaned over and Jayne had to grab her waist so she didn’t tumble head first into her bunk.

“Possibly, but I kinda doubt it. The ladder looks all wavy.” She tried, almost successfully, to stop the giggles that bubbled up in her throat. Jayne knew there was no way she would make it down without hurting herself. So he started down the ladder fist, and with his hands on her hips, he guided her down behind him.

Kaylee lost her footing on the last rung of the ladder and fell, but Jayne was there to catch her. She turned in his arms to face him, her face lit up in a smile.

“Oopps. I missed one.” She laughed again. And before Jayne knew what was happening, Kaylee stood on her tiptoes and kissed him. Just once, hard on the lips.

“Gorramit Kaylee, what are you doing?” Jayne tried to move away, but there was little room to move and Kaylee had her arms wrapped firmly around him.

“Do you think I’m pretty Jayne?” She asked. The happy, laughing girl of the minutes before was long gone and Jayne saw the serious, burning look in her eyes. She pulled herself flush against him and undulated once, making sure to touch as much of him as possible.

“Deng yi miao…” He needed to stall, think of a good answer, but his brain stopped functioning the moment she touched him like that.

“Simple question Jayne, do you think I’m pretty?”

“Sure, I suppose so.” He may as well tell the truth, with the way his body was beginning to react to her proximity, she would know the truth soon enough.

“That’s good, because I think you’re pretty too.” Leaning into him, Kaylee ran her tongue over side of his neck, before taking his ear lobe into her teeth and biting down gently.

“Kaylee, stop that, dong ma? Mal will have my head.”

“Mal’s not here, he’ll never know. I can keep a secret if you can.” She didn’t know what had come over her, but be damned if she was going to let Jayne get away from her tonight. It had been too long since a man had touched her in a way that wasn’t brotherly. She kissed him again, felt him groan when she unbuckled his jeans with sure quick fingers.

“You don’t know what you’re doing nyen ching-duh, touching a man like that.” Jayne tried to make his voice sound tough, hard, anything to discourage Kaylee from touching him, “I might not be able to stop myself.”

“Who says I would want you to stop?” Kaylee said simply, wrapping her hand around his cock. ‘I’m not as innocent as everyone thinks I am.”

No, I suppose not, Jayne thought, as he thrust up into her hand. Kaylee twisted and pulled on his erection and Jayne moaned. He looked down at her, and she smiled at him. A smile that was as far away from innocent as he profession was from legal.

“So no stopping then?” He was asking for permission and they both knew it. He wouldn’t take anything from her.

“No stopping.” She said and he pulled her close kissing her again. What ever she asked for, he would give her.

It was very early when Jayne woke. Serenity was quiet and he thought this would be the perfect chance for him to slip unnoticed from Kaylee’s bunk to his own. In the semi darkness, he fumbled with his clothes and was just about to climb up the ladder, when a voice stopped him dead in his tracks.

“Leaving so soon?” Turning, he saw Kaylee sitting up, her hair mussed and looking half asleep.

“Yeah, well, I thought it would be best.” He glanced down at the floor. Feeling slightly guilty for wanting to leave without saying a word.

"Yeah, you’re probably right. Best to keep it a secret.” Kaylee voice was level, something that he wasn’t expecting. When he looked up at her, she smiled at him. “I’m not a child Jayne, or a blushing virgin. I know what last night was about. It was fun, so thank you.”

He looked at her, surprise written clearly all over his face. He didn’t know what he was expecting, but it clearly wasn’t this. Kaylee got off of her cot and made her way over to him, not caring that she was naked. Standing on her tiptoes, she kissed him once, softly on the lips.

“Go on, get out of her before Mal catches you. He’ll have you head if he finds out.” Kaylee smiled and Jayne found himself smiling back. He wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close, kissing her just a bit harder.

“Maybe we can do this again sometime?”

“Maybe, sometime.” Kaylee laughed softly, ”Now get out of here before the Capitan wakes up. You’d be no good to me if you lost your head.”
